Well my training has begun. Over the last 2 weeks I have walked 17 miles. I have to admit that it has been awhile since I have worked out this much, but I think my body is adapting well. The biggest help has come in the way of shoes. I went to Fleet Feet in Sandy Springs, Ga and got fitted for a good pair of Asics and some inserts to correct my tendency to over pronate when I walk. What a HUGE difference!
As far as fundraising goes, I received another $30 from my Aunt Jan the other day!! I am going to the local Kroger this coming week and talking to them about setting up a table out front.
Classes start back on Monday, so I will be interested to see how school affects my training!!!

Money Changes Everything
Well I think I have found a place to host a fundraising event at. There is a Restaurant in Buford, Ga called Beef O' Brady's and they have agreed to allow me to advertise an evening where 10% of all sales will go towards my walk! They are also going to let me set up a table out front and maybe even guest bartend! Im pretty excited about this! It should be a good way to get some money coming in for this cause!
I am also happy to say that I got another donation! It couldnt have come at a better time because this has been the week from Hell!
I know I shouldnt say that because there are men and women who are fighting for their lives against Breast Cancer and who could probably honestly say that they feel like they are going through hell and back. But this has been a rough week. Example... Finals are coming up, and I had a major photoshoot on Tuesday. The night before my Hair stylist bailed on me for no reason, and then the morning of the shoot, 30 minutes before we were supposed to be getting started, my makeup artist bailed!! Now I am not a hair stylist or a make up artist by any means. I am a photographer.. Thats out of my area of knowledge, but I think I was able to pull of something pretty cool nontheless! Also my harddrive crashed.. I was able to save some of the data on it (which was originally 700gb of photos from the last couple years) but I had to spend $300 that i didnt have to do so. Iwould much rather that money go towards BC research, but what can you do? I know some of you may say "well why didnt you back everything up?" well.. that WAS my backup..

"Drink, Pee, Aviod IV"
Its been a bit since I last posted. Midterms took over my life for a couple weeks.
I am happy to report that I have received my very FIRST donation!!! $10 from an old coworker of mine! I am so excited because this actually makes it real! Every little bit counts and I am thrilled with anything anyone can give. I have also received notice from a few family members that they plan on donating after pay day! So as of right now only $2990 left, and I have some great ideas for fundraising.
Also my team is about to grow by a couple members. The daughters of Mrs. Sewell have decided to walk and join the team! I am so excited they will be with me on this journey in their mothers honor.
Now onto the not so exciting news.. I was doing a training walk, well more of a 1.3 mile hike, up Stone Mountain the other day and stupidly forgot to take water along with me. By the time I hit the halfway point of the mountain my right leg began to lock up. I was in pain for a couple days and later learned it was due to dehydration. Lesson Learned... Drink water!!

"APPALLED!"
Appalled... up until my fifth grade school year, I had no idea what this word meant, or that it even was a word. Mrs. Sewell made this word famous to her students. When she said it though, it was more of a term of endearment. Towards the end of the school year and even years after it was like a badge of honor to make Mrs. Sewell say "Im appalled!". HAHA she said it in her southern debutaunt voice which drug out the end of the word in a way that just made you laugh!
Today Mrs. Sewell would have been "appalled" if she had seen my lack of motivation for class. Luckily for me we just had critques on our latest work which was making Polaroid image transfers and emulsion lifts. To those of you who think I just spoke in a diferrent language, it basically involves boiling the Polaroid until the image lifts off the paper backing and becomes this soft gelly which you can apply to anything. Its a pretty cool process. I used a multiple exposure shot that I had previously done for one of my lifts. It turned out pretty cool. Below is the initial shot.
As far as training is concerned... I wasnt concerned with it today! lol I felt more like studying the back of my eyelids for a couple hours. Maybe tomorrow.

The 3-day countdown is starting at 255 days!!!
Let the training and fundraising begin!!
AND...
I am a photography student, which as usual keeps me ridiculously busy. So as a means of getting my work out there I will also be randomly posting some of my recent work!! So keep an eye out for new stuff!

Sad Endings and Happy Beginnings
So it begins, the start of a long journey to remember a dear friend and hope for the future. On February 1st, 2010 we lost an amazing woman to the battle of breast cancer. She fought for 9 years before passing just over a week ago.
Mrs. Sewell (as I knew to call her) was my fifth grade teacher back in 1998. I remember being terrified at the thought of being her student. I had heard nothing but horrible stories of how she was mean and how she would make you write apology letters to her if we made her mad. I remember walking into her classroom on the first day of class and beginning our English lesson. All of a sudden in the middle of our lesson she turned and shouted "STOP". Of course we all jumped, but we were soon shocked when she busted into song and continued with "in the name of love". We didnt know what to think. She shook around a bit and said something along the lines of "wait wait, thats not what I meant to say". She went on to teach us a fun way to remember a specific rule about spelling, that to this day continues to help me.
"STOP! (this is the point she would randomly interject the aforementioned song before continuing to the rule) when a single consonant is preceeded by a single vowel, you double the consonant. Add "ed", "ing" whatever you want it to be"
Of course this fun little jingle was repeated almost every day, along with a number of other fun rhymes. I quickly realized how lucky I was to have her as a teacher, despite the fact that she did indeed kick you out of the classroom to write her letters of apology. It was through her odd ways of working and engaging us that I grew not only academically, but also in maturity and self confidence. Mrs. Sewell took me from a kid who had little self-esteem and seldom cared about my education, to a confident 10 year old who loved to learn! She was amazing!
I frequently visited Mrs. Sewell in her classroom over the last 13 years, and she and my family grew to be very close. She became like another mom to me. I looked up to her for encouragement and laughter (something she was never short of). She was one of the most amazing people to ever come into my life!
I am beginning this journey and commitment to walk in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day in her honor. The world lost a truly amazing woman when she passed. I am walking these 60 miles in hopes that the world wont be robbed of another persons Mrs. Sewell because of this horrible cancer. It is a loss that is gut wrenching to think about and have to realize. But her memory lives on! I know she will be there with us for this journey!
